A visit to monitor the progress of implementation of the project in Tanzania is underway. On 13 November 2018, President Ewa Piekarska took part in the opening ceremony of the “minor theatre” building constructed as part of the PMM's project and in a meeting with the Management Board of a hospital on the subject of continuation of joint activities in that region.
The hospital in Nyangao consists of several departments. At the neonatal intensive care unit, the staff use “Baby Anne” dummies which encourage the practice of skills related to resuscitation of neonates. There is also a gynaecological and obstetrics department there where currently Beata Kapusta (gynaecologist and PMM volunteer) and a female physician from the Netherlands (supporting local staff in the work at the department) work. At the orthopaedic department, the number of patients considerably exceeds the “spatial capacity” and that is why some patients have been placed in the corridor. The rehabilitation room serves both adults as well as adolescents and infants with severe burns who do exercises preventing muscle contractures. There are several “small surgery” theatres in the hospital, an admission room with a patient registration point and a waiting room which is customarily located in the shadow of a mango tree. Next to the hospital, there is a building designed for patients’ families. Relatives can stay there overnight and they also prepare meals for patients.
On 13 November, the grand opening of the “minor theatre” building took place, constructed as part of the PMM’s project. The ribbon was cut and the newly built facility was blessed by bishop Lindi. Furthermore, persons involved in the implementation of the PMM’s project gave their speeches on that day.
