Help in South Sudan

Help in South Sudan

The country has been affected by famine, ruined by civil war. According to the latest UN report, half a million children may die of starvation. There is a need for tangible help: a sack of rice, beans, cornflour.

The World Food Programme (WFP) and other UN agencies have declared famine. Formally, this means that people have already begun to die due to lack of food. The last humanitarian disaster of this kind was declared by the UN in Somalia in 2011 when the country was affected by a huge drought.

Polish Medical Mission will provide aid to South Sudan through the German organisation Johanniter International. At present, Johanniter is carrying out food distribution supported by the World Food Programme in West Bahr El Ghazal State. The objective of the emergency feeding is to provide support to one of the DP camps and to five other refugee centres, and the aid goes mainly to children under five years of age and pregnant women who were found to be suffering from extreme malnutrition. The total number of people receiving help is about 30,000 people.

How to help?
Go to http://www.pmm.org.pl/en/packages/ and buy one of the food kits.

Pay money into account no. 62 1240 2294 1111 0000 3718 5444 with annotation: Sudan.

15 kg cornflour, 20 kg beans or 50 kg rice will be sufficient for a family of five for two months.
The cost of each kit is between PLN 50 and PLN 250. For us, this is not a substantial amount but it can save the lives of an entire Sudanese family!
