BUY MEDICINES & DRESSING MATERIALS FOR THE CHIOS REFUGEES!

The Polish Medical Mission helps refugees on the Greek island of Chios. It is the fifth largest Greek island located 7 km from the Turkish coast. Attractive for tourists looking for the sun, it is also a place of the drama of refugees who got there from Turkey and await the outcome of their asylum procedure.

PMM has sent two volunteers to Chios: an internal medicine doctor and a nurse who work in a team with doctors from the Salvamento Maritimo Humanitari organization. It is an association of volunteers, paramedics and health professionals who travel to the Aegean Sea to help refugees.

SMH provides medical assistance at the refugee camp, on beaches where boats and pontoons land, and in the port.

This is how the help on Chios looks like:

Currently, there are approximately 3,000 people on the island. The refugees await a decision on their case, the issuance of which is prolonged. They camp out in tents in an unprotected area. Before reaching Chios, they experienced horrors of war, lost their loved ones or were wounded - close to death. Their homes were bombed or burnt. They had to run away. They are looking for a better life. They spent many nights without a roof over their heads, they were sick during the journey, they got through the Aegean Sea on ordinary pontoons, being lucky to make it out alive. They need our help!

A Spanish organization, Salvamento Maritimo Humanitario, (http://www.smh.eus/index.php/en/about-us/), as part of the project of basic medical assistance in the Campo Vial refugee camp, provides medical assistance to refugees in the camp, as well as those in custody awaiting expulsion and at landfall (beach), as well as during arrivals at the port. The project is being carried out in cooperation with the Greek Centre for Control and Prevention on Chios KEELPNO and with the port police on Chios.
