As part of the activities of the project in Iraqi Kurdistan, refugees in the Alwand 1 camp have received for the first time in 4 years free access to dental care. In October 2017, a dental office was opened there. The average number of patients per day is 23 people. The dentist employed, Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim, also carries out the education of patients in the field of oral hygiene, proper tooth brushing and removal of plaque. As a result of his work, including cleaning and scaling of patients' teeth, the degree of extraction decreased by 70% and concerned only extreme cases of severely damaged teeth. Most of the treatment used is cavity filling and tartar removal.
The project Support to the development of basic health care, improvement of hygiene conditions and medical education in the province of Diyala for refugees, displaced persons and the local population’ is partly funded with a subsidy within the framework of the programme operated by the Development Cooperation Department in the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
